Stop Treating All Patients Equally
Precision-guided antibiotic treatment for improved sepsis patient management
The right therapy, to the right person, at the right time.
Working with bacterial sepsis patient management presents many challenges, as each case is unique. Several factors, such as the patient’s clinical condition, site of infection, and pathogen characteristics, must be considered for each case. This makes selecting the antibiotic, route of administration and optimal dosage difficult. As such, precision-guided approaches are becoming increasingly vital in ensuring that the right therapy is delivered promptly, which could improve patient outcomes and help combat antimicrobial resistance.

Precision-guided antibiotic treatment for sepsis patient management
A new era of precision-guided antibiotic treatment requires improvements in several areas and technologies in sepsis patient care. These include reliable and rapid next-generation antibiotic susceptibility testing (AST), real-time therapeutic drug monitoring, and streamlined diagnostic workflows. While many of these technologies already exist, but are not yet implemented. Therefor the question remains: how could these ultra-rapid AST systems be effectively integrated into current sepsis care protocols to optimise treatment decisions for patients in the future?
